The Sierra Designs Backcountry bed is by far my favorite sleeping bag I have ever owned for a plethora of reasons. I have never been just a back or side sleeper I’m usually all of the above I fall asleep on my side but eventually migrate to my stomach and my back throughout the night and this is the first sleeping bag to accommodate literally any sleeping position that you like and won’t get all twisted up and create discomfort.
Some notable features include the foot vent which is literally a slot cut into the underside of the bag where you can easily slide your toes out if your hot and back in when you’ve reached maximum comfort. The opening seals in a way to allow no air in although there are no actual closures to keep it sealed I haven’t had an issue with being cold. The no zipper feature is lovely, no cold zippers on your back or drafts flowing through, as well as the built in down comforter which can be folded down if your too warm or pulled over you when your cold. This comforter has a cool feature in itself; hand pockets in the corners of the blanket allow you to slip your hands in to adjust the blanket perfectly as well as tuck in or over your head to create a very customizable sleeping experience. There is also a sleeve on the bottom of the bag to slip your pad into so you won’t roll or slip off during the night, additionally there are a couple loops to secure the bottom half of your bag to your sleeping pad as well.
You may fear that all this comfort comes at the price of weight, but it does not. This bag doesn’t compromise anything except for weight you won’t even notice this super light bag in your pack. on the other hand you may fear such a light bag couldn’t possibly keep you warm but worry not this bag keeps you toasty all the way down to 22 degrees. With Dridown fill you don’t have to worry when your bag gets wet, like it probably will if you live in the pacific northwest like I do, it will dry quickly which I can attest to. By far this is the closest experience you will have to sleeping in your own bed.
